congrats tori!
So I received terrific news today upon getting home tonight from class. My sister received a huge packet today in the mail from the Peace Corps letting her know that she got in! This was one of the largest number of applications they've had (over 12,000 for around 3,000 spots!), and I know she is very excited. She will be leaving April 16th to go on a health mission/AIDS outreach (I think...I haven't gotten the chance to talk to her yet to get exact details...oops!) in Botswana. She'll be gone until the end of June 2011, so the wedding will be after that. I am SO excited for you Tori, and I know that this is going to be an amazing and life-changing experience for you! Congrats again!

I just don't know what to do with myself...
So what's been new with me? Nothing. I've just been studying and getting lost in the world of weddings online. I've been trying to be good and not get sucked in too much, but it's really hard. Especially because my roommate Carol got engaged on the 13th and is having her wedding in August during their 2 weeks off, so she is in full-on planning mode. Last weekend we went to a Crate & Barrel "Wedding Party" where you get to go into the store 2 hours before it opens and drink mimosas and eat lots of yummy snacks (paninis, pastries, chocolates, fruit, etc.), and meet local vendors, and test out some of their products. It was a lot of fun, and I got to explore downtown Pasadena, which is actually a pretty cool place. I've live 30 minutes away from an awesome area and had no idea for a whole year! How sad...
We have all of ortho midterms next week (written and practicals), so I've been getting ahead for that. In fact, I already finished the entire study guide today after receiving it...today. The power of free time. I'm not used to being actually on top of things and having time to spare. This is quite the opposite end of the spectrum from a year ago. Heck, even one term ago! I'm trying to not get swallowed up by all this free time, so hopefully I can manage to focus and do what needs to get done.
We have all of ortho midterms next week (written and practicals), so I've been getting ahead for that. In fact, I already finished the entire study guide today after receiving it...today. The power of free time. I'm not used to being actually on top of things and having time to spare. This is quite the opposite end of the spectrum from a year ago. Heck, even one term ago! I'm trying to not get swallowed up by all this free time, so hopefully I can manage to focus and do what needs to get done.

I hope you are spending the day surrounded by the things/ones you love and make you happy. Jeff is up in Kernville for the weekend with his parents. We both agreed that it would be best for me to stay home and try to get healthy again. Plus, Valentine's Day has never been a big deal for me, so we'll make some other spontaneous day special instead. It's a good thing too because he said there was 1-2 inches of snow on the ground up there and it was freezing...not good for someone without an immune system.
Cold watch 2009: I made it to Urgent Care yesterday, and it was definitely not as fast as it was in Vegas. 2 1/2 hours later I finally got in, and am now on new antibiotics and FloNase. Hopefully this will kill whatever is attacking my poor body. Course, now that I'm on so many stinking drugs my stomach is protesting...go figure!
And here's my schedule since I don't think I ever posted it:
Neuro Rehab II: MW 8:30-12, F 9-11
Ortho II: T 10-3:30, Thurs 8:30-1, F 1-6
Ethics: T 4:30-8
Research: W 1:30-4
Please note that this is 15 hours less of class compared to last term. Kinda makes you sick, doesn't it?!

enough already!
I know it's been a while...again...but this time I have good reasons. The first week as a second year was fine. Tuesday I starting feeling crummy with a head cold and sore throat. This would be the 6th time I've gotten sick since Thanksgiving...yes, 6th time. I'm pretty sure my immune system is on vacation somewhere. Any time it would like to come back, it is more than welcome. The congestion and sore throat started to go away a little on Thursday, only to be replaced by extreme, non-stop coughing. By the time Friday night rolled around, I had no voice due to my poor irritated throat. Friday night I rode down to San Diego with my roommate Amy, where we spent the night at her mom's house.
Saturday was Jeff's sister's baby shower, which I helped set up and attended as "The Silent One." There was Pat & Oscar's which I have missed dearly since it left T.O., and a chocolate fountain, which Sofia, among others, loved.
It was the first time I had seen any of Jeff's family since we got engaged, and they were all very excited to see me and the ring. Melissa even gave me a bridal magazine and wedding planner and his grandma made me a jewelry box with two doves on top. So sweet! I had a great time, despite the terrible weather (there was thunder, lightning, and hail) and the fact that I had no voice. I was feeling fine all Saturday except for the occasional cough, but by Saturday night my throat was on fire, and by Sunday morning, I could barely swallow. No time for being sick though, because Amy and I were headed off to Vegas!
Our first stop after checking in to our hotel (we stayed off the strip at the Residence Inn for free!) was Urgent Care. I lost $120 within my first hour in Vegas, and not in a fun way. I must say, they were very fast (we were in and out within 45 minutes) and very nice. Then we filled my prescriptions at the local CVS, and I was successfully on antibiotics and cough syrup with codeine. By the time the rest of our group showed up, I was so out of it, I couldn't really even tell you what was going on. They all went out to the clubs on Sunday night while I passed out. Monday we went for a walk around the strip and I was the silent, drugged-up tour guide. Quite entertaining if I do say so myself, and they were all impressed at how much I knew about Vegas despite only being there once before. Little did they know that I spent the night before reading the entire Vegas book that was in the hotel while they were out partying. So sneaky! :) Then we registered for our conference all the way at the Mandalay Bay (yes, we walked all 4 miles there on top of all the walking we had done around the strip prior to that), and eventually took a cab back to the hotel. Good thing too, because it was absolutely freezing while we were there, with a high of 45ยบ the entire time! That probably didn't help my cold at all, but I didn't exactly have any control over the weather.
I attended a few courses during the next two days, and was quite pleased to find that an intermediate course was actually quite basic for us. Quite a testament to the level of education we are receiving. I only had to leave one of the courses because it was too early in the morning and the drugs had not worn off yet. I literally could not keep my eyes open! We also hit up the exhibit hall which means freebies galore! I have a huge bag of pens, highlighters, water bottles, goniometers, ice packs, massagers, etc. Then we packed the car up to the brim and drove home. I slept most the way, which made it fly by.
Yesterday I spent the day sleeping in, taking naps, and lounging around in front of the TV. I am feeling a bit better, but am out of antibiotics now, and might have a sinus infection. Let the fun keep on going! Of course the health center would be closed today because of President's Day, so I might be hitting up another Urgent Care. I've been trying every trick in the book to clear this up, but my body sure seems to want to hold onto this cold for some reason. I'm going to unpack today and get some homework time in. Other than that, just trying to get healthy again and stay dry and warm.

catching up...
I apologize for the lack of entries, and yes I do realize it has been quite some time. Finals were quite busy. One of our professors got pink eye in both eyes the week before finals so our practicals with him got bumped back to the actual finals week, adding a few more tests into the stress cocktail. As soon as we were finished on Thursday I was out of here, and stopped in T.O. to get my hair cut and have dinner with my parents. Eventually I made it up to SLO, grumpy and exhausted. Jeff made fun of my parallel parking skills under complete delirium, and I snapped at him (sorry!), only to come inside and find flowers, brownies, and goodies from Farmer's Market. I felt absolutely awful. Sorry again Jeff! :)
I spent the week sleeping in, being a bum, looking up wedding stuff, watching TV, exploring around the ever-changing SLO, and not reading ANYTHING, with the exception of a few wedding books at Borders. Jeff also had a charity soccer tournament that his team from work participated in, where I went and played cheerleader for the day. It was fun watching him play, but it was a long day in the sun. I came back down to T.O. on Sunday to watch the Super Bowl with my parents and grandparents and filled my stomach (and arteries) with loads of delicious trans fats. Can't beat Super Bowl food! I'm totally bummed that Arizona lost (my Phoenix-born blood was pumping hard), but I guess now we can say that the Chargers lost to the Super Bowl champs. Then I headed back down to school to meet my new roommate, Carol. Yep, a new roommate! My roommate Katy had to move out due to financial issues to a place with cheaper rent, and we now have a first year living here. So far so good, and I think all should be fine. You may be thinking to yourself, well if she's a first year, then does that make you a second year??? And the answer would be YES!!!
That's right...I am officially a second year now, and I could not be happier. I feel like I could pretty much conquer anything now after surviving a year of this madness. We've reached the peak of the mountain and are now on a downhill slide til we graduate. Our schedule thus far is MUCH more forgiving than last term, and we are enjoying the freedom of spare time...by catching up on TV! We have a Bachelor/Biggest Loser watching group together now, and are starting up Game Night on Thursday nights. It is quite exciting to have some free time. This may all go straight out the window once we start hitting tests, but until then, we are fully enjoying being second years. Anyway, time to head off to class. I will post my schedule once it is finalized. They are still making changes to figure out where to put all of us and the full (40 students) first year class. Maybe with all this free time I'll be able to write more...no promises though!
