October Happenings

Yep...it is January, and I'm finally posting about things that happened in October. What can I say? I'm a busy working mom! So here's a little trip down memory lane...

We took Aiden to his first Cal Poly Men's Soccer game vs. CSUN. He slept through most of it, but he got his first taste of the Experts Exchange luxury box. Here's to hopefully many more games together as a family!

Our growing boy is now starting to wear 9 month clothing. And he's not even 5 months old yet. Yikes!

And it just wouldn't be October without a trip to the pumpkin patch at the Avila Valley Barn no less! Of course it was crowded (it always is in October), but he was quite the hit with all the college sorority girls who seemed to have gathered there. He wasn't too sure about sitting in the big pile of pumpkins, but we found one more his size and a cute wooden chair and then he was content with trying to eat the pumpkin. And since he hasn't mastered sitting up quite yet, it was quite the ordeal to take a picture of him without him falling over!

Aiden has also started to master rolling from his back to his tummy. Of course he only seems to do this in the crib during the night, which wakes him up and results in him crying. Which results in me waking up...rinse and repeat several times throughout the night. I would love if he could either get used to it or just do it during the daytime while he's playing. *sigh*

We took Aiden on his first major road trip to go to his first wedding. My friend and roommate from grad school, Katy, was getting married in Tahoe. As nervous as we were to go on that long of a trip with an almost-5-month old baby, I really wanted to go and have a reunion with my other grad school friends. We decided to split up the drive into 3-hour chunks to hopefully make things a little less painful. Friday night we drove to San Ramon and spent the night in a hotel. As mentioned above, Aiden loves to roll over in the middle of the night and wake himself up...a long night for mama! We drove the rest of the way on Saturday morning and then went to the wedding at The Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. The wedding was beautiful with perfect weather, and it was great getting to catch up with my friends. Congrats to Katy and Andrew...Go Team Norton!

After spending the night in Truckee, we spent the day exploring Tahoe. I had never been there before, and it had been a while since Jeff had visited the area. It was gorgeous weather, especially for mid-October!

Then we piled into the car and drove down to Walnut Creek on Sunday and spent the night at my friend Ashley's house. Her son Camden is exactly 1 week older than Aiden, and it was the first time we had seen each other since becoming mommies. It was so fun watching the two boys interact with each other. They weren't quite sure what to think, and didn't seem to know if the other one was real or not. Thanks for housing us, Janis family!

Things we learned from the trip...
-Aiden does well in the car for about 1-2 hours, then screams for the remaining 1-2 hours.
-Aiden's favorite book and distraction is reading "Is Your Mama a Llama?" over and over and over again.
-Investing in noise-cancelling headphones was the best money we have spent on him so far. He would not have survived the reception without them!
-We stink at making sure we take family pictures...didn't get a good one from the wedding! Darn it!
-Jeff and I are undecided whether it is worse to sit in the back next to the screaming baby or to be driving and not be able to do anything about it.
-Tahoe is really far away, especially when traveling with a baby.

And I will leave you with this gem of Aiden laughing. Nothing better than the sound of a baby's laughter!
